I designed a regenerative ecosystem for sofas tailored to the hospitality environment as target group and with a focus on hotel lobby, in collaboration with furniture manufacturer Indera (Mecam Group).
I got to design the final product proposal according to my view and understanding of regenerative design and the collection of information built up during the research phase. Throughout the process, I kept the importance of materials, DFA DFD, modularity, and the list of demands from the user in mind. I decided to use fewer materials and connections and make the parts as easy to replace, assemble, and dissemble as possible to give the user more flexibility and prolong the end life of the product.
Inspired by traditional wicker weaving techniques used in history for example, by the Egyptians and different cultures during the years, I wanted to bring a playful idea into my design by imitating the idea of weaving a material around a frame. By using nowadays sustainable materials such as alluminium and cotton I incorporate an urban/industrial feel which creates a more contemporary touch.
