This project explores the development of a regenerative design ecosystem for sofas within the hospitality sector. Conducted in collaboration with the furniture manufacturer Indera (Mecam Group), the research aimed to translate the principles of regenerative design into a tangible and adaptable furniture concept.
The design process was guided by a continuous inquiry into material efficiency, Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Disassembly (DFD), modularity, and user-centered adaptability. The objective was to reduce material variety and connection complexity, ensuring that components are easy to assemble, disassemble, and replace, thereby extending the product’s lifespan and enhancing user flexibility.
Drawing inspiration from traditional wicker weaving techniques, historically practiced by cultures such as the Egyptians and across various regions, I explored how the notion of weaving could be reinterpreted within a contemporary context. By integrating sustainable materials such as aluminum and cotton, the design establishes a dialogue between craft tradition and industrial modernity, resulting in a piece that embodies both playfulness and structural clarity.
